Fouras and the Ile d’Aix
In the north of the territory, the seaside resort of Fouras-les-Bains is undoubtedly the favourite beach for folks from Rochefort. Its seafront faces Fort Boyard and the Ile d’Aix, to which you can go by boat in twenty minutes.
Enjoy a ride on the little tourist small train to discover the history of this seaside resort, with its Belle-Époque architecture. Climb to the top of Fort Vauban to admire the breathtaking views of the islands of Oléron, Aix and Madame.
At the Pointe de la Fumée, you'll embark for the Ile d'Aix aboard a ferry or enjoy a boat tour around Fort Boyard.

Port-des-Barques and the Ile Madame
Discover all the charm of the oyster village of Port-des-Barques, located on the Charente estuary. This fishing village with its single storey houses is surrounded by many wooden pontoons on stilts topped with fishing huts, called Carrelets. This postcard scenery reaches its most picturesque on the Ile Madame nearby, accessible at low tide.
